Children's eye care

We can examine your child’s eyes from a very early age. Most children are able to recognize pictures by the age of 3 and we would be able to test their vision by using pictures or matching shapes. If you feel that a child has an eye problem do not wait, sooner is better then later as many eye problems need treating at a young age.

Contact lens care

We offer full contact lens consultations and fitting or simply aftercare whichever is your need. We stock the latest brands of lenses to suit all budgets, or something different why not try coloured lenses.

Free eye tests for NHS patients

Regular eye examinations are important, which is why the NHS provides free eye tests for qualifying patients . At Portland Eye Care, we will check that your eyes are healthy and ensure your vision is as clear and comfortable as possible.

Who is entitled to a free eye test?

Under - 16s.
Under - 19s in full-time education.
Over - 60s.
People registered as partially sighted or blind
People advised by an opthalmologist that they are at risk of glaucoma
Receive income support
Receive income based Jobseeker's Allowance
Receive Pension Credit Guarantee Credit
Receive Income based Employment and Support Allowance
Are awarded Universal Credit
Are entitled to, or named on, a valid NHS tax credit exemption certificate
Are named on a valid NHS certificate for full help with health costs (HC2)
People named on an NHS certificate for partial help with health costs (HC3) may also get help
Holders (or partners of holders) of an exemption certificate (HC2)
People who need certain complex lenses
People diagnosed diabetic or with glaucoma
